Sixteen-year-old Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario was violently killed in front of her own mother, Lisandra Lisa Rosario, in an incident that occurred in Puerto Rico and exposed a web of violence involving teenagers and adults. The event not only marked the lives of their family but also sparked a social debate due to the brutality of the crime and another mother's direct involvement in the attack.

From Friendship to Horror

The teenager, who was about to turn 17, was a student with dreams of becoming a psychologist. Her teachers and friends described her as kind-hearted and an animal lover. She was known to be close with Anthonieshka Avilés Cabrera, who would later be identified as one of her attackers.

According to the Secretary of Education, the young women were once friends. However, tensions between them escalated, eventually becoming the trigger for one of the most shocking cases the island has seen in recent years.

The Incident

On the night of August 10 in Aibonito, an end-of-summer party was being held. Afterward, a group of young people went to the Desvío Roberto Colón, where a dispute broke out. According to reports, Gabriela's older sister was attacked, and she stepped in to defend her.

It was then that 40-year-old Elvia Cabrera Rivera and her 17-year-old daughter, Anthonieshka, intervened. According to the prosecution, the two of them acted together to attack Gabriela with a sharp object.

The teenager received eight stab wounds, while a friend who tried to protect her sustained three serious wounds and nearly lost a lung.

Gabriela's mother witnessed the scene but was restrained by others. Police arrived at 12:15 a.m., and the teenager was taken to the hospital. However, by then it was too late: she had died from the attack.

A Mother's Pain

Elvia and her daughter were arrested days later and transferred to the precinct while in judicial custody. As authorities took them away, Lisandra, in tears, shouted, "Murderers!" while demanding justice for her daughter's murder.

Upon leaving the precinct, both her and the victim's aunt expressed gratitude for the support they received, but they made no further statements to the press.

Friends, family, and hundreds of neighbors attended the young woman's funeral in Aibonito and joined a procession in honor of Gabriela. "It has been devastating for the entire family," one person said during the burial.

During the service, messages of faith and appeals for patience were heard. "We must continue to pray, kneel every night, and call out her name specifically so that Gabriela can rest in peace," a person in attendance said.

Every action has its consequences, and today those responsible for Gabriela's death will face justice." Bail was set at one million dollars each for both defendants, and Anthonieshka will be tried as an adult due to the severity of the crime.

Overwhelming evidence, including several testimonies and forensic findings, confirmed that the mother-daughter duo acted together. Additionally, a bladed weapon, bloodstained clothing, and a vehicle allegedly used to flee the scene were found.

The legal process is ongoing, and more arrests are still possible. Witness accounts suggest that several other people participated in the assault or in restraining Gabriela's mother while her daughter was being attacked, although that part is still under investigation.

As images of the funeral surfaced, social media was filled with messages of grief and demands for justice. One person wrote, "Bless her, look at her hands trembling… 😢," in reference to Gabriela's mother as she faced the situation.
